Is there a way to label property boundary lines with their length & bearing other than typing the text in manually?

Yes - you need to use the Drafting bar / Tag... / by Category..
Family:

And the default template plus Annotation /Tags library folder has

Hover over the Property line and apply the Tag with or without a Leader etc.
