Subject:         Window – Family Naming Convention

All RVT Pacifica defined Families can be identified by the suffix (CC) used in the Family filename.
For example: Wdw-AW-11-Timber-Architrave-(CC).rfa

The Window family Naming Convention used in RVT Pacifica is based on the building construction element type, the Opening types use in the frame followed by the frame divisions as they are seen from an exterior view and lastly any construction / material description.

The first 'field' denotes the building Construction Element type, Wdw abbreviation of Window.

The first few characters of the second 'field' denotes the window hung type.
For example…

AW

= AWning hung sash window

BF

= BiFold hinged unit

BOX

= Box Window (under soffit unit)

CA

= CAsement hung sash window

CW

= Corner Window

DH

= Double Hung window

FL

= Fixed Lite glass window

GH

= Glass House window (glass on top)

LVR

= LouVRe window (sash or shutter)

OP

= OPening only (no content)

SG

= ShugG vertical sliding glass window

SH

= Side Hung window

SS

= Sliding Sash window

TH

= Top Hinged sash window

The next (third) 'field' is used to indicate the number of Divisions horizontal along the frame and the number of divisions vertically in each of those horizontal divisions.
For example…

1

= single lite opening (no vertical mullions)

11

= two one lite divisions (1 vertical mullion between)

12

= two horizontal spaced divisions with 1 lite in the first and two lites in the second

If the window needs to have a specific Left or Right opening designated then the last character of this field is used to assign which horizontal division has the opening lite.
For example…
AW-11R would be for a two lite with right opening sash. But usually there is a Revit Flip Control that switches the window around so there is no need for a specific Left or Right family definition.

The next (forth) 'field' is for any specific Material & Construction type the family is designed to represent. For example…

Aluminium-Grooved

= Aluminum frame with timber jamb liner grooved for linings
suitable for typical timber or steel framed Wall types.

BV

= suitable for BrickVeneer wall construction type

Different families are required for these different wall types because the sill detail is created by the window element.

Type Control:
Generally ALL windows are Type defined with sample Widths and Heights.
Type names are by Width then Height eg. 1800 x 1200 (1800 wd. x 1200 ht.)
Windows by Type can then be found and included in Schedules.
Catalog TXT files are not used for window families.
Other typical forth field name descriptors used are:

-Architrave

= includes an Architrave trim component to internal wall face

-Variable

= Variable frame size that can be changed for each window Instance

-Raked

= top of frame can have Raking angle / pitch

Sample family names are…

Wdw-AW-1-Aluminium-Grooved

= Awning SingleSash Aluminium Frame Grooved Jamb Liner - no interior trim

Wdw-TH-212-Timber-Architrave

= Top Hung SplitSash+1Lite+SplitSash made of Timber frame with Architrave
   interior trim
